FINDING BALANCE: FREEDOM FROM ATTACHMENT, ANGER AND INDIFFERENCE With Neil Toyota

  • Kadampa Meditation Center The Hamptons 720C Montauk Highway Water Mill, NY 11976 USA (map)

Our feelings towards others are often unbalanced. When we see a friend, we're happy, but seeing others can leave us unhappy or indifferent. In this way, we find ourselves in a world of friends, enemies and strangers. This way of relating to others prevents us from holding onto the special attitudes of warmth, friendliness, love and compassion. In this course, we will learn and practice the meditation on "equanimity," a balanced and unbiased mind -- an equally warm and friendly attitude towards others.

“When we gain the realization of equanimity our mind becomes peaceful and we do not feel disturbed whatever our circumstances. This balanced attitude is something that we need to cultivate because we do not have it naturally from the very beginning of our spiritual training. If everyone were to develop equanimity they would not be governed by attachment and hatred, and they would find freedom from suffering”. – Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche

The teaching and meditation will run from 10:30–11:45, followed by Tea and Talk Group Discussion session with Neil.
