Difficult Conversations

With Neil Toyota

When faced with having to have difficult conversations we may try avoiding them, or we may repress our true feelings, or we may lash out in anger, or all of the above! Ultimately, none of these approaches will lead to happiness. Buddha emphasized the need for skillful and beneficial actions in all circumstances, and in particular he taught four special approaches to dealing with difficulties. Known as the four "siddhis", or attainments, these four types of enlightened action will empower us with the energy and skill we need to deal with conflict and confrontation. They will allow us to navigate even the most challenging situations calmly and wisely, and they will allow us to speak with clarity and compassion.
