Eight Steps to Training the Mind

Why is it so hard to be and stay happy? According to Buddha, it’s not. In fact, it can be done in as few as 8 steps. What it requires is a drastic change in the way we view ourselves and others, as well as in how we respond to the conflicts and hardships that arise in our lives.
Based on the book Eight Steps to Happiness, this series will introduce us to the practice of lojong or training the mind. Each step will show us how to transform our mind from our regular self-orientated perspective into the loving, courageous and wise heart of a Bodhisattva, a fearless person on the path to lasting happiness.

An End to Conflict: Teachings on Karma & Compassion

When problems arise in our lives and people behave badly, we typically become angry, place blame, and sometimes react in harmful ways. With a deep understanding of karma, we can quickly drop our painful minds and begin to act thoughtfully and skillfully. But karma is one of those terms that we often throw around without fully knowing what it is about.  Do we really understand it? Let alone believe in it?

An understanding of this law of cause and effect is not only useful for helping us make good decisions in times of conflict, but is critical to our own present and future happiness. In this series we will learn special methods for freeing ourselves of the negativity that is the cause of all unpleasant situations that arise in our own lives. Yes, that’s correct. All of them.
